dermal filler being injected into young woman's forehead

Dermal Fillers & Injectables

Dermal fillers have become a popular, minimally invasive method to treat the signs of aging. By using filler, we are able to add volume to areas that have deflated, improve asymmetry and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and folds.

There are several types and brands of fillers available. At our clinic we have preferred types for each area of the face.  Restylane, Radiesse, Juvéderm, Belotero and Sculptra are the most often used filler lines and each have specific indications and areas of use.

Fillers are injected in the office. First your skin is numbed with numbing cream 15-30 minutes prior. The skin is cleansed with alcohol and then the filler is injected using a thin cannula or very fine gauge needle.

FAQs

How is the procedure performed?

After the procedure we recommend avoiding massage to the area or frequent touching. Some patients may have minor swelling or bruising lasting a few days.

Can filler be removed?

Yes, filler made from hyaluronic acid (HA) can be dissolved in the office using a medication called hyaluronidase. Sometimes repeated injections are needed to completely dissolve the HA filler.

How long do dermal fillers last?

HA and similar synthetic fillers typically last 1 to 1.5 years depending on the area of treatment. When used as an injectable, autologous fat can provide a longer lasting correction, but is performed in the operating room.
